The only thing I don't like about Qotom is that I have to take them apart and move a jumper to get power on permanent. But for value, it's hard to beat Qotom.Īll of this stuff is made in China anyways. The Protecli's I never tried, maybe I'll give it a go. I like having 8 GB or more RAM for crazy long adblock lists that are so long that it breaks pfBlocker NG dev before I run out of RAM. I like having a Core i5 vs Atom, even if it's overkill. I have bought many Netgate appliances over the years, but I've been Qotom for a few, and I expect them to last longer than an Atom based board. I have one other client on Plus and I might move them away real soon while Plus and CE are still kinda compatible in regards to config backup and restore. This is just me, but I'm staying away from Plus.
So I just bit down hard, ordered a Qotum, showed up in 2 days, and put CE on and restored my Plus config onto it. It's like he didn't understand what Plus was at all. I asked them for a Pfsense Plus download for VGA, and the guy simply gave me links to CE editions. How do I get it? Because I just emailed TAC because my old 8860 fanless non rackmount, which was the best model for a while, finally died after 6-8 years. So I can upgrade to Plus sorta now? Huh? I don't have time to read the fine print. Choosing Netgate is a whole can of worms, like, do I want Plus or not? Do I want their very expensive tech support or not? I check in here once a month and it is bewildering what they are up to next. I don't think they do coreboot, but it's not a killer feature for me.
